Sojourners Institute

Enlivening Caring Professionals

Purpose

Sojourners Institute is progressive education and soulful guidance that inspire people to journey to the next level in their life and work.

Mission

Sojourners Institute supports and enlivens people in the helping professions through individual and group development programs.

 Why the Name “Sojourners”?

Sojourners are travelers who stay a while in one place and then keep moving on. The spiritual life is never fixed; there’s always a new place to call home. Inspired by the life of emancipator Sojourner Truth, we believe the journey is about being emancipated from patterns that limit us, to a liberated way of feeling, thinking and living. Join us as we sojourn together in this vital work of freedom and new life.

Founders

Scott copyScott McRae has been a spiritual seeker since childhood. Currently he is Director of Spiritual Care for a health care system, offers individual coaching and spiritual direction, and leads workshops and retreats. Scott is a graduate of Yale Divinity School and the Center for Spiritual Guidance, and he has completed training with Coach University.

Mel Head Shot2Melanie Alman McRae grew up South Carolina and explored a wide range of southern religious experience. Her spiritual journey led her out of the South and into more progressive perspectives and work. She was ordained in 1989, and her past ministry experience includes parish ministry and chaplaincy in nursing homes and hospitals. Currently she works as a spiritual director and group leader, and as a chaplain and bereavement counselor for a hospice program.
